Inverness, FL : Dunnellon man died after colliding head-on with another car on State Road 44, east of Kensington Avenue on Saturday night, Sep 5, 2015

A Dunnellon man was killed after colliding head-on with another car Saturday night while driving the wrong way near Inverness.

At about 11:29 p.m., the 76-year-old man who has yet to be named by Florida Highway Patrol was driving a Nissan X-Terra eastbound in a westbound lane of State Road 44, east of Kensington Avenue, the crash report states.

Carlos Martin Colon, 44, of Homosassa, was driving westbound in a in the same lane as the oncoming man’s car, which soon collided head-on with Colon’s Chevrolet Cruz.

The man was pronounced dead on scene, and Colon was transported to Ocala Regional Hospital in serious condition. Results are pending to determine if alcohol was a factor.
