A McCrory police officer died Thursday morning when his patrol car hit a deer.
Officer Robert Aaron Barker, 26, of McCrory was traveling north on Arkansas Highway 17, south of Patterson, when his patrol car struck the animal.
The collision happened at approximately 5 a.m. as Barker was responding to a call to assist a Woodruff County sheriff’s deputy.
According to a news release from the Arkansas State Police, Barker was taken to a Searcy hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Barker was a four-year veteran of the McCrory Police Department.
