Newport News, VA : North Carolina woman killed in Chesapeake head-on collision on Thursday September 15 2016

A head-on collision in Chesapeake Thursday night killed a North Carolina woman and left another injured, police said.

Around 8:30 p.m. crews responded to the 3700 block of South Battlefield Boulevard, police spokeswoman Dorienne Boykin said. A car headed south on the boulevard hit a car head on that was driving north, Boykin said. She did not say whether either car was driving on the wrong side of the road.Christine Creighton, 49, of Currituck, N.C., who was driving the car going north, died at the scene, according to police reports.

The man driving the car headed south was taken to a local hospital, Boykin said. She did not share his condition.

Alcohol may have played into this crash, Boykin said. Police are investigating what caused the fatal collision.
