Rapid City, SD : Man on scooter injured after a collision with a car on Canyon Lake Drive on Friday, March 27, 2015

A 19-year-old male riding a scooter was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a collision with a car at the intersection of Sheridan Lake Road and Canyon Lake Drive.

The original call came in at about 6 p.m. as a collision between an automobile and motorcycle, but when authorities arrived, they found one of two scooter riders had collided with a car, said Sgt. Darren Soucy of the Rapid City Police Department.

Two scooter riders were riding east on Canyon Lake Drive as a 15-year-old was driving a car west. The car started to make a left turn onto Sheridan Lake Road when the lead scooter rider collided with the car, he said.

The second scooter rider was behind the injured party; he managed to stop in time and was uninjured. All parties involved live in Rapid City, Soucy said.

The collision is still under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
