Moultrie, GA : Teen driver killed when Jeep hit semi truck on Highway 37 on Tuesday, September 27, 2016
A Colquitt County teen-ager on his way to school on Tuesday was killed when his car struck a truck hauling a mobile home, the third fatality on county roadways in five days.
Charles Jon-Phillip Harrod, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that occurred at about 8 a.m. on Highway 37 East near the intersection of Baldy Road.
Harrod was driving west in a 2015 Jeep Wrangler when he met an east-bound 2007 International semi truck towing a mobile home, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The Jeep veered into the lane of the truck, driven by Marcus Noble, 45, of Ochlocknee, according to GSP reports. The Jeep struck the trailer on its driver’s side, causing the Jeep to begin rotating counterclockwise multiple times before coming to rest in the ditch.
The GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was called to assist with the investigation.
Blood results are pending on the driver of the truck, who was not injured.
