A Polk County family is devastated after deputies said a driver plowed a truck into their car, sending it into their home.
The family’s surveillance camera captured the Dodge Ram hitting Stefanie Macdonald’s white Honda Civic, sending it into her home Sunday just after 3 a.m.
The driver can be seen backing up and driving off.
“I heard a boom, but I honestly thought someone was breaking in,” Macdonald said. “I saw headlights and then reversing noises.”
Twisted metal and shattered glass was all that was left of Macdonald’s car, which broke through the walls of the family’s home on Cottonwood Drive in Davenport.
On the other side of the wall were Macdonald’s two children, including her 2-year-old daughter sleeping in her crib.
“If this vehicle wasn’t here, probably my daughter wouldn’t be here and neither would my step-daughter. That car saved their lives,” Macdonald said. “He had no remorse for anybody’s life that was in my house that morning.”
Polk County detectives are reviewing the surveillance video to try and track down the truck driver.
Macdonald said crews have not removed the car from their home because of structural damage.
