Elkton ,MD : 21-year-old Robert Marshall Smith arrested after he crashed his car in elkton area on Thursday early Morning ,April 23 2015
A corporal with the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office captured a man early Thursday morning after the suspect crashed his car on an Elkton-area highway and then ran away from the accident scene, according to Maryland State Police.
The single-vehicle crash occurred about 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Route 279 and Fletchwood Road, which is northeast of Elkton and a short distance southwest of the Delaware state line, police reported.
Investigators identified the driver of the black Honda as 21-year-old Robert Marshall Smith III, of the unit block of Rowles Lane near North East. Troopers charged Smith with driving while under the influence of alcohol, police reported.
After crashing his car, Smith allegedly bailed from the vehicle and ran toward a nearby Wawa convenience store before MSP troopers arrived at the scene, police said. The troopers had responded to a dispatch for a “single-vehicle crash,” police added.
Shortly after the traffic accident, CCSO Cpl. Michael Kalinsky spotted the suspect walking along Fletchwood Road, near Fletchwood Market, and took him into custody, according to police.
Kalinsky drove Smith back to the accident scene and turned him over to MSP troopers, police reported.
An MSP spokesman at the North East Barrack explained that additional information concerning the crash was unavailable because the trooper who handled the incident is still writing his final accident report.
