Palmetto, FL : 5-year-old child is in serious condition after he was ejected from a car when a freight truck ran a red light and caused a collision on Monday September 15th 2014
A 5-year-old Palmetto child is in serious condition after he was ejected from a caretaker’s car when a freight truck ran a red light and caused a collision, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Adam Aguilar, 5, was taken to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg with serious injuries after he was ejected from 26-year-old Jessica Gonzalez’s 2007 Toyota Camry at 16th Avenue East and 29th Street East at about 8 a.m. Monday in Palmetto. Gonzalez and a 7-year-old also in the car were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Troopers said the accident occurred when Ralph Johnson Jr., 55, of Ellenton, drove his 1999 freight truck northbound along 16th Avenue East through the intersection when he had a red light.
At the same time, Gonzalez, who had a green light, drove through the intersection heading westbound on 29th Street East.
The front of Gonzalez’s car collided with the right side of Johnson’s truck.
The impact of the crash caused 5-year-old Adam Aguilar, who authorities allege was not properly seat-belted, to be ejected from the car window as the vehicle slid off the roadway and onto 29Th Street East’s northeast shoulder.
Johnson was uninjured.
Troopers cited Johnson with failing to stop at a steady red signal and Gonzalez with having a young passenger in her car who was not wearing a seat belt.
