Gresham, OR : 40-year-old driver injured after two car crash on Powell Boulevard on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
A Portland woman is behind bars after police say she rammed her Honda Civic into a pickup, then tried to make off with the cars of two drivers who had stopped at the crash scene to offer help.
The early Tuesday collision closed Southeast Burnside Road near Powell Boulevard for hours, Gresham police said.
Heidi Kirillova, 29, was speeding west on U.S. 26 about 4 a.m. when her 2010 Civic struck the back of a 1997 Chevrolet pickup as it approached Southeast Powell Valley Road, police said.
At some point after the crash, police said Kirillova tried to steal cars from people who stopped to lend a hand but bystanders intervened both times. She took off on foot, but officers caught up to her on East Powell Boulevard and took her into custody.
The truck's driver, 40-year-old Kevin Maden of Sandy, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and released by early afternoon.
Kirillova will be booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on allegations of assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, carjacking, reckless endangerment, failure to perform the duties of a driver, criminal mischief, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and attempted unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
