El Paso, TX : DWI suspect crashes during police chase on Friday, January 27th 2017
A suspected drunken driver crashed into a rock wall and chain-link fence while allegedly fleeing from police late Friday in Central El Paso, officials said Tuesday.
Joshua Anthony Bernal, 24, was allegedly speeding in a maroon 2000 Dodge Ram when police tried to pull him over about 11 p.m. in the 3000 block of Pershing Drive in Five Points, officials said. Bernal was allegedly driving 55 mph in a 30 mph zone, police said.
When officers tried to stop him, Bernal allegedly kept driving and eventually crashed when he tried to make a turn on Morenci Road near Memorial Park, police said. After crashing, Bernal climbed a chain-link fence and ran, but he was soon taken into custody, police said.
Bernal was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, evading arrest in a vehicle, evading arrest and resisting arrest. Records show that he was released from jail Saturday on a $8,500 bond.
