Franklin, N.J : 3 people injured following serious car crash in Franklin Township on Thursday afternoon, March 9, 2017
Three people were hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle car crash in the township that closed the roadway for approximately four hours, said township police spokesman, Lt. Philip Rizzo, in a news release Friday.
A 74-year-old Somerset woman had to extricated from her vehicle and was taken to an area hospital with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries, the release stated.
On Thursday at 2:22 PM, township police responded to a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Arden Street and Girard Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the woman heavily entrapped within the vehicle, the release said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the woman, driving a 1993 Volvo, was traveling eastbound on Arden Street through a stop sign and into the intersection of Girard Avenue when her vehicle was struck by a 2003 Ford Explorer, police said.A 34-year-old Somerset woman was driving the Ford Explorer. There were two passengers in the Ford Explorer, both males from Somerset ages 33 and 17, according to police. The driver and the 17-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital with apparent non-life threatening injuries.
Members of the township Traffic Safety Bureau and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Officer Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. The roadway was shut down for nearly four hours during the investigation and subsequent clean up, authorities said.
The accident remains under investigation, said police.
