Roanoke, VA : Killed two people in Montgomery County on April, Thursday 27th 2017
Virginia State Police on Thursday released details of an interstate wreck that killed two people in Montgomery County.
Richmond Nkansah, 42, and Divina Boakye, 14, both of Antioch, Tennessee, died in a single-vehicle crash that occurred around 4:30 a.m. at Mile Marker 120 on Interstate 81, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller wrote in an email.
Lawrence Adu Osei, 38, also of Antioch, received what were described as minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, as were five other people, state police reported.
The wreck happened as Osei drove a 2017 Ford Transit north, according to the state police report. He had seven passengers. The vehicle left the right side of the road, hit the guardrail, crossed the northbound lanes and went off the left side and into a guardrail there.
Osei and most of the passengers were wearing seatbelts. One passenger, a 4-year-old boy, was in a child safety seat.
But Nkansah, who was in the back seat, was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected, state police reported.
Osei was charged with reckless driving. Virginia State Police continue to investigate the crash, Geller wrote.
