LYNDONVILLE, VT : Lyndon State student killed in morning crash on Monday, 19th September 2016
A Lyndon State College student was killed in an early morning crash near the school’s campus.
Police say Alex Paduch, 21, of Middleboro, Mass. was the sole occupant of a Jeep Grand Cherokee that crashed on McGoff Hill just before 2 a.m. Monday.
Authorities said the Jeep had extensive damage after it went off the road and hit a telephone pole, making impact on the driver’s side. An early investigation by Vermont State Police found Paduch was wearing a seat-belt, but appeared to be speeding before the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
Paduch was an Electronic Journalism Arts Major, and an anchor/reporter in the college’s News 7 program. The College issued a statement Monday:
"The Lyndon State College family is greatly saddened about the death of our student Alex Paduch. Alex, a senior in the Electronic Journalism Arts program, was an award-winning student journalist and beloved by the Lyndon community. This is a heartbreaking loss for Alex's family and loved ones and for his LSC family. He was an outstanding young man, a talented journalist, and a good friend. Our condolences go out to all who have been touched by his life and passing. Counseling services have been set up to help students, faculty, and staff cope with this loss."
News 7 News Director Tim Lewis posted on Facebook, that he, "was looking forward to tracking him in his career because it was clear he was going to do well." And went on to say, "Alex's colleagues in the newsroom decided to "do the job" to honor Alex." And produced the broadcast in his honor Monday night.
