Phoenix, AZ : One person dead and three injured in fatal car crash on 7th Ave and Ellswood St. on Sunday, February 8, 2015
One person is dead and three others are injured, including a 10-year-old child, after a bad two-car accident that happened late last night. But Phoenix Fire officials say this crash could have been a whole lot worse.
The accident happened around midnight last night on 7th Ave and Ellswood St. Phoenix Fire and Phoenix Police say someone saw this accident happen and pulled a woman out of her car, just seconds before it exploded. They say the heroic actions of that unknown person likely saved that woman's life.
“We had a pretty significant impact here with a very serious and grave outcome,” said Aaron Ernsberger with the Phoenix Fire Department.
Police say a car driven by a man in his forties had two passengers, an elderly female and a child. The other car was driven by a woman in her mid-30s; and somehow, those two cars collided.
The man driving with the two passengers died on scene. The two passengers had to be pulled out of the wreckage by fire crews.
The woman driving the other car was pulled to safety by some heroic passerby just moments before the car burst into flames.
“Without a doubt they saved her life and we'd like to thank them and shake their hand and tell them how much we appreciate them,” said Ernsberger. “There's no question they did, I walked by the vehicle and it was completely burned out on the inside to the point that the steering wheel is missing.”
Phoenix Fire and Phoenix Police officials are still investigating the cause of the crash.
