Wisconsin man killed in a crash on Interstate 29

Officials on Friday released the name of a Wisconsin man killed a crash on Interstate 29.

Allen J. Lueck, 71, of Rosendale, Wis., was killed in a crash on slippery roads two miles north of Salix, Iowa, about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

He was a passenger in a northbound pickup that veered into the median and hit a southbound vehicle, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

The driver, Gary C. Schwantes, 69, of New Holstein, Wisc., also was injured.

Details of Schwantes' condition were not immediately available Friday morning.

The weather likely played a factor in the crash, said Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Jay Smith.

A mix of rain and ice fell in the area late Friday afternoon. It later changed to snow, blanketing much of the region.

"I would have to say that had a lot to do with it," Smith said. "It wasn't just him. There were other cars sliding around."

The crash is still under investigation.
