Westland,MI : Westland Police investigate after man complaining of health problem dies following arrest on December, Thursday 14th 2017

The death of a man who died while in the custody of Westland police is being investigated.

No hometown was listed for the man, who died after being transported Dec. 10 from the police jail to an area hospital by Westland Fire Rescue. The man was arrested in the early morning hours and died within a few hours.

"While in custody, the man complained that he thought maybe he was having a medical problem. The fire department was called and checked him out," Westland Police Chief Jeff Jedrusik said. "The decision was made to monitor him. He got progressively worse."

Fire rescue responded a second time and took the man to an area hospital, where he subsequently died. No cause of death is yet known for the man, who had been arrested for driving with a suspended license, marijuana and cocaine possession.
