Fresno, CA : One boy killed after crash. The crash happened 4.pm on sunday May 4th 2014.
Witnesses who ran to help are describing the moments following a Fresno County crash which killed a young boy. The California Highway Patrol says a driver ran through a stop sign. The crash happened just after 4 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Alta and Dinuba avenues near Reedley.
"I saw the baby, saw the mom cried and screaming. He was holding the pizzas. He was supposed to be celebrating his baby sister's birthday. We cried, all of us," said Nasser Hamed.
Hamed was working the checkout counter at Sunrise Mini Mart when he heard the collision right outside. "We heard this crash bang so we ran very quick, and by the time we got there the car was already on the side all smashed up," said Hamed.
The CHP says the car carrying the mother and son was heading northbound on Alta and making a left turn. At the same time the driver of a white pickup truck was traveling in the opposite direction. "The vehicle traveling southbound failed to stop at the stop sign and ultimately broadsided the other vehicle," said Sgt. Joseph Bianchi.
Angelina Bairas' daughter was so upset. She heard the crash and ran toward it where she realized the child who passed away was in her fifth grade class. "I'm so sad," said Juliana Guerra.
The CHP is working to determine whether the driver who ran the stop sign will face any charges.
