NORPHLET, AK : Norphlet teacher injured in ATV accident on Monday, 22nd August, 2016
An all-terrain vehicle accident at a local deer camp this weekend sent the Smackover-Norphlet District Gifted and Talented coordinator to the hospital with extensive head injuries.
Stacy Slater, 36, of Norphlet, was unresponsive upon arrival at the Medical Center of South Arkansas, according to an Union County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
Her husband, David Slater, informed deputies that they were riding with friends at a Norphlet deer camp when one of the ATVs became stuck. Stacy Slater reportedly drove ahead and disappeared around a curve in the road.
David Slater said that when the rest of the group reached the curve, they saw that Stacy Slater’s ATV had struck a tree head on. She was found on the ground approximately five feet away from the ATV and was bleeding from her nose and mouth with a large gash on the front of her head, according to the incident report.
A Facebook support group created by her sister, Carla Brown, has been inundated by offers of support and prayer from many around the community.
Updates posted by her family stated that she is currently stable and resting in the intensive care unit of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Center in Little Rock.
Neurosurgeons have been assessing her reflexes and hope to see her eyes opening and movement within the next few days, according to the website.
To follow Stacy Slater’s recovery or offer words of support, the group can be found on Facebook by searching Prayers for Mrs. Stacy Slater.
