ENUMCLAW, WA : 3 people critically hurt as small crashes in Enumclaw on Thursday, July 27, 2017
Two men and a woman are in critical condition after crashing a small plane into a park in Enumclaw Thursday night, nearly hitting a playground.
Two people were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in downtown Seattle, a spokesperson with the Enumclaw Fire Department says.
The third person was transported to a nearby hospital by a King County medic unit. First responders say the plane went down just before 9 p.m.
The plane crashed near the Enumclaw Airport just off of 244th Avenue Southeast. Multiple agencies responded.
Firefighters say their priority was to take care of the victims and make sure there wasn't a fire.
Witnesses tell KOMO News that the pilot and the passenger looked like they had the worst of the injuries.
One witness says he heard a loud thud and ran out of his house and saw the crash. Another says they ran out and tried to help the victims.
"We heard a sound, it wasn't followed by an explosion, but it was definitely a thud type sound," Darren Rawie, a witness, said.
Agencies on scene Thursday night included Enumclaw, Buckley, King County Fire District 44 and Maple Valley Fire.
Enumclaw police say this is still a very active investigation. Officers will remain on scene through Thursday night to protect the crash site.
