Anderson, IN : Elwood woman, 19, killed in a crash on Indiana 37 south of the city on Friday night, February 24, 2017
Investigators were unsure Saturday if weather was a factor in a crash Friday night that killed an Elwood teenager.
Delany Pereault, 19, died from injuries in the accident on Indiana 37 just south of the city.
Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff's Department responded to the report of a crash in the 9500 block of Indiana 37 about 10:15 p.m., according to a Madison County Sheriff’s Department press release.
Investigators say evidence at the scene shows Pereault’s vehicle, a 1997 Saturn, was northbound on Ind. 37 when she lost control and drove off the east side of the road before swerving into the oncoming lane.
The Saturn was struck on the passenger side by a Chevrolet Blazer driven by Anthony McPherson, 20, of Elwood. He suffered cuts on his face and a right foot injury. A passenger in the SUV, Kamon Meadows, 21, of Noblesville suffered cuts on his left arm and face.
The injured were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood for treatment, and according to Facebook posts, were released Saturday.
Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger said Saturday investigators were still looking into the cause of crash and whether the rainy weather was a factor.
Jasmine Delong, a friend of Pereault, said she was organizing a candlelight vigil, but hadn’t decided on a time.
