Apple Valley,CA : Two people hospitalized following rollover crash on August, Wednesday 16th 2017
A two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries when a black Chevrolet S10 rolled over after being hit on Outer Highway 18.
At approximately 1:43 p.m., the S10 was traveling west on Outer Highway 18 when it was struck by a Chevrolet Colorado heading south on Kasota Road, according to Apple Valley resident Meagan Robinson, who witnessed the crash.
“I was at the stop sign (behind the S10),” Robinson told the Daily Press. “They had stopped and checked, and they slowly started crossing. And a gentleman in a truck got over that hump (at the intersection of Highway 18 and Kasota) at that light ... and then nicked them, spun them out, rolled them twice and then they took out the signs.”
Robinson said the S10 was nearly through the intersection when the crash occurred, adding that she did not know whether driver of the Colorado had the right of way as he drove through the intersection.
“He hit them as they were coming out of the intersection,” she said. “The front right bumper of his car, so he hit their passenger tailside.”
After rolling, the S10 hit a street sign and stop sign along the east side of Outer Highway 18 before coming to a stop near the sidewalk.
Apple Valley resident Ashlynn Kiefer, who works in the area, said she is CPR certified and ran to the truck to render aid to the driver and passenger.
“As soon as I saw her call out, I knew there was somebody else in the car because she was screaming for help and freaking out,” Kiefer said.
Both Robinson and Kiefer said they believed the woman who called for help was the driver.
“She crawled out of this side and if you flip the truck over that’s the driver’s side,” Robinson said.
The other person, a man, crawled out of the toppled S10 with the help of first responders, according to Kiefer, who said an American Medical Response ambulance arrived on scene in less than two minutes.
Both the man and woman received aid, including neck braces, before being transported to nearby Saint Joseph Health, St. Mary, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department official at the scene.
The Colorado sustained front-end damage as a result of the crash. The driver remained on scene where he was interviewed by deputies who said he wasn’t injured.
Authorities called the incident a “cut-and-dry accident,” adding that alcohol was not a factor.
