Madison, N.H : Man seriously injured after a crash on Route 16 in Madison Thursday afternoon, September 22, 2016

A man was seriously injured after striking a tree with his car on Route 16 in Madison Thursday afternoon.

New Hampshire State Police were called to the scene around 2:30 p.m. They said the man was driving south on Route 16 when he left the roadway and struck a tree off the southbound shoulder.

The driver suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from the car.

He was taken to Memorial Hospital in North Conway before being flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

Police said the driver's name is being withheld due to the nature of his injuries and pending notification of family members.
