Phoenix, AZ : Carjacker sought after I-10 tunnel crash on Monday, March 13th 2017
The man involved in a carjacking and crash in the Interstate 10 deck-park tunnel Monday is on the loose, Phoenix police said.
Phoenix police officers and Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a collision involving a motorcycle just after 2 p.m. in the tunnel, which is between the Seventh Street and Seventh Avenue exits, police said.
According to police, a man was driving west in a 2011 Can-Am three-wheeled motorcycle believed stolen from the area of Van Buren and 45th streets, when he collided with a car driven by a 33-year-old man with three children inside, all younger than age of 12.
The man jumped onto the hood of the victim's vehicle in an attempt to steal it, just before the car crashed into a wall in the tunnel, police said.
Police said a 45-year-old man stopped to provide help, but the motorcycle rider ran past him and stole his truck.The second victim's car is a 2007 white Chevy pickup with "Hunt" lettering on the side, police said.
The carjacker was last seen in the pickup traveling westbound on I-10, said police. The vehicle and the man had not been located by late Monday afternoon, police said.
Police described the man as Hispanic, 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build, with short hair and wearing white shorts and a white shirt. He was speaking Spanish and had visible injuries from crash, police said.
