Lamb County, TX : 1 dead, 1 hospitalized in 2-vehicle crash in Lamb County on U.S. 84 about 8 miles west of Shallowater on Friday, 25th January 2019

Alcohol and excessive speed are suspected factors in a crash involving a car that left a Lubbock area highway, slamming into a car parked at a rest stop and killing its sleeping driver.

At approximately 3 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the crash on U.S. 84 about 8 miles west of Shallowater in Lubbock County, said DPS Lt. Bryan Witt.

Investigators believe a 2016 Dodge Charger was traveling west on U.S. 84 and ran off the road into the roadside park, striking a 2005 Nissan passenger car that was parked there.

The driver of the Nissan, 40-year-old Kenley Gene Raney of Henderson, Nevada, was in the backseat and asleep, said Witt.

The Dodge Charger traveled over and through the Nissan, continued west and south rolling.

The Charger began to roll and came to rest on its top next to the railroad tracks, said Witt.
