Lighthouse Point, FL : Driver of car crashed into a hair salon on Monday afternoon October 27th 2014

A driver crashed into a hair salon in Lighthouse Point, Monday. Witnesses said the driver, who is reportedly an undocumented resident, was driving southbound on North Federal Highway when he went over the median, drove against oncoming traffic and slammed into the business, located on 2400 N. Federal Highway, sometime at around 3 p.m. "It just went straight into the salon," said salon manager Yareli Rodriguez. "I was screaming." The car barely missed one employee of the hair salon, Evelyn Acevedo. "I turned around a medium-sized wall I have, and I look at my manager, and she screams at me, 'Evelyn, move!' and I see the car coming through the window and run." The store employees felt very fortunate they were alive and nobody was hurt. "I have two small kids, and what that man did..." Acevedo trailed off as she cried. "I feel very lucky," said Rodriguez. "Those chairs that are mangled there, that could have been somebody sitting there. Thankfully, nobody was waiting. We all feel very lucky and just shaken up." According to witnesses, the driver, who only spoke in Spanish, seemed coherent but suffered some bruising from the airbag. He told witnesses his brakes gave out. Meanwhile, Acevedo and her coworkers blame the busy and dangerous road. "This is such a bad intersection with a lot of traffic and accidents, and we always joke that one day someone is going to come through the store. That day was today." The car has since been removed from the scene, and the driver was arrested for not having a valid driver's license. No serious injuries were reported.
