University of Michigan regent Mark Bernstein was involved in a three-car crash at about 10:15 a.m. Saturday on Washtenaw Avenue near Huron Parkway.
Ann Arbor police said Huron Valley Ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but it was unclear whether anyone was transported. Dispatchers said no other details were available at the time.
In a phone interview with The Ann Arbor News, Bernstein said he was traveling east on Washtenaw in the left lane at about 35 miles per hour when he collided almost head-on with the other vehicle.
"The car was sitting in the left turn lane and was rear-ended by another vehicle and was pushed into my lane," he said.
"I have some bumps and bruises, but I think I'm fine. I think (the cars were) totaled, but I'm not sure. Airbags and seat belts may have saved my life."
He said HVA examined everyone at the scene, and he doesn't think anyone was transported.
