Rockford,IL : South Beloit woman died of head injuries in crash on February, Tuesday 6th 2018
A South Beloit woman killed when her car veered off the road and struck a tree Tuesday night died from blunt-force trauma to her head suffered in the crash, according to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
Georgette Starns, 58, was on her way to Rockford at 5:18 p.m. to pick her husband up from work when it appears that she lost control of her car on southbound South Bluff Street near Prairie Hill Road, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office. She went down the embankment and struck a tree.
Coroner Bill Hintz said his office is conducting tests to determine if Starns suffered a medical crisis of some kind that resulted in the crash. Weather also could be a factor. Starns had diabetes, but “that section of road had snow all over it (and) there were slid marks,” Hintz said.
Starns was not wearing a seat belt.
“She was found on the other side of the car. She would have survived if she was wearing her seat belt,” Hintz said of the mother and grandmother.
