Ames, IA : 20-year-old pedestrian injured after being struck by distracted driver at Beach Avenue and Lincoln Way in Ames on Thursday morning, February 11, 2016
A pedestrian was injured Thursday morning after being hit by a distracted driver.
Ames police say a driver was attempting to turn left from Beach Avenue onto Lincoln Way about 10:30 a.m. when she got a call on her cellphone.
The driver told police she looked down at her phone when it rang and that’s when she struck a 20-year-old woman in the crosswalk heading northbound on Lincoln Way.
Police say the driver immediately got out of her car and rendered aid to the pedestrian until police and medics arrived.
The pedestrian was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.
