Plankinton, SD : Four people injured in a single-car rollover crash on Interstate 90 near Plankinton on Sunday, July 17, 2016
A single-car rollover crash hospitalized one man with life-threatening injuries and injured three passengers Sunday on Interstate 90 near Plankinton.
Eric Nybakke, 48, of Bethel, Minnesota, was driving eastbound in a 2005 Ford Taurus. At about 7:14 a.m., he lost control of the vehicle near mile marker 313, about five miles east of Plankinton, entered the center median, went back on the roadway and rolled into the ditch, according to Tony Mangan, public information officer for the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
Nybakke was wearing a seat belt but sustained life-threatening injuries. He was first transported to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell but was then flown to Avera in Sioux Falls, Mangan said.
Three passengers were also injured. Kimberly Jackson, 49, of Andover, Minnesota, was wearing a seat belt and received serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Samantha McCabe, 23, of Andover, Minnesota, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.
A 15-year-old female passenger from Andover, Minnesota, was also not wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries.
No charges are pending at this time. Mitchell Ambulance, Plankinton Ambulance and the Aurora County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
