A 4-year-old boy was killed in a car crash around 8:15 this morning on U.S. 15 near Leavensworth Road in Darlington County.
The child has been identified as Cameron Ard, according to Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee.
He was a passenger in a 2004 GMC sport utility vehicle traveling north on the highway when it ran off the side of the road, hit a pole and overturned, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The child was taken to the hospital after the crash and pronounced dead there, Hardee said.
The Highway Patrol said the child was restrained in the car, but possibly not restrained properly.
The crash is under investigation by the Darlington County Coroner's Office and the Highway Patrol and no charges have been filed yet.
