Soldotna, AK : 19-year-old woman died in a head-on crash on the Sterling Highway on Monday, January 25, 2016
One person is dead in a two-vehicle collision Monday morning on the Sterling Highway near mile 90, Alaska State Troopers wrote in a dispatch.
The head-on collision on the highway took place at about 5:35 a.m., troopers wrote. "Upon arrival troopers determined one of the occupants to be deceased."
The collision has closed off both lanes of traffic on the highway and traffic is being rerouted as the investigation is expected to take several hours, according to troopers and department of transportation officials.
Officials with the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District say that some bus routes are being affected by the crash and delays are to be expected on bus routes 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, serving River City Academy, Skyview Middle School, Soldotna High School and Soldotna Prep. Officials say bus route 9 could expect delays of up to an hour.
Bus route 36 serving Soldotna Elementary and Soldotna Montessori and route 12 serving Sterling Elementary may also experience delays.
