A truck driver was killed early Tuesday in a fiery crash on the Kansas Turnpike on the southeast side of Wichita, officials said.

The fatality victim was identified as Fred F. Anderson, 63, of Sedgwick.

According to the Kansas Turnpike Authority’s online accident report, the crash occurred at 3 a.m. Tuesday as a 2012 Kenworth semi-trailer was traveling south on Interstate 35 on the turnpike.

The turnpike authority said the semi failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, then drove through a guardrail and down an embankment on the west side of the highway.

The semi came to rest at the bottom of the embankment against a fence line, burst into flames and was consumed by fire, according to the accident report.
