Garner, N.C : Three teens injured, 1 charged after police chase ends in crash on I-40 in Garner on Thursday, August 4, 2016
Three teens were injured after a police chased ended in a crash on Interstate 40 in Garner, authorities said.
The chase began when a Garner police officer attempted to pull over a car for speeding, but the driver, identified as 18-year-old Elisha Jevon Grubb, of Raleigh, took off and refused to stop.
Officials said the incident started around 10:30 p.m.
Police said officers chased the car through Garner and onto I-40 when the driver crashed near U.S. Highway 70 east. The vehicle was stolen.
Grubb and two 17-year-old female passengers were taken to WakeMed as a result of the crash. Grubb was driving and now faces charges for speeding to elude arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle, and reckless driving. Garner police said Grubb has serious but non-life threatening injuries. The two minors were also injured but police said they do not have an update on their condition.
The wreck shut down I-40 for a brief period of time while EMS worked at the scene.
“Preliminary reports indicate the vehicle may have collided with another on 40 resulting in it losing control and rolling over,” Lt. Chris Clayton with the Garner Police Department said.
The chase and crash is currently under investigation by highway patrol and the Garner Police Department.
CBS North Carolina will update this story as more information becomes available.
