BRIDGEPORT, CT : Bridgeport SROs pull driver from car after crash on Monday, 23rd December, 2019

The police department’s school resource officers are on a saving streak.
Officer Carlos Carmo Jr. captured headlines across the nation and was labeled a hero for stopping a sport utility vehicle without a driver last week. And now this week two more SROs pulled an injured driver out of a smoking vehicle after a serious crash.
Bridgeport school resource officers Thiago Reaes and Jonathan Mendez were on proactive patrols in and around the city’s Safe School Corridors Monday when they heard a loud crashing sound around 2:50 p.m.
Reaes and Mendez were in the 1000 block of Connecticut Avenue in the area of Florence Street.
Jones said the officers immediately hopped into their patrol vehicle, lights and sirens blaring, as they raced toward the sound.
That sound, they discovered, was a black pickup truck colliding with a brick building; the rear end of the vehicle was lifted into the air and crashed back down on the ground, according to police spokesman Terron Jones.
The officers found the pickup truck unoccupied, but spotted a gray vehicle across the road with heavy front end damage and smoke pouring from the engine, Jones said.
