Shelbyville, KY : KY 55 crash claims 2 on Friday, December 2nd, 2016
A woman and a child are dead after a two-vehicle crash at KY 55 and Old Brunerstown Road at 6:51 p.m. Friday night which injured three others, said police.Kentucky State Police spokesperson Bernis Napier said the woman died either at the scene or on the way to Jewish Hospital Shelbyville, and the infant was pronounced dead at Norton's Children's Hospital by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office. Their names have not yet been released.
Napier said the accident happened when Dennis M. Chapman, 20, of Ashland, who was traveling south on KY 55 in a 1998 Subaru, attempted to make a left turn onto Old Brunerstown Road, turning into the path of a 1999 Dodge driven by Kenneth Stewart, 57, of Finchville.
The impact caused Stewart's vehicle to strike the Subaru in the passenger side; it went off an embankment.
The woman and the child were passengers in the Subaru. Chapman, along with the remaining surviving passenger, were taken to the University of Louisville Hospital. Their conditions are not known.
Stewart, who was alone in his vehicle. was taken to Jewish Hospital Shelbyville with minor injuries.
