LORIDA, FL : Former LP postmaster seriously injured in Monday wreck on Monday, 5th September 2016
A former Lake Placid postmaster was seriously injured Monday morning when his motorcycle collided with a garbage truck on U.S. 98.
Robi Gore, who retired several years ago from the postal service following a stint as the head of the Lake Placid Post Office, was flown to Longwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce for emergency treatment.
Gore was riding with his son Jason Gore, also of Lake Placid when the accident occurred.
The younger Gore said his father was not conscious before being flown out.
“I knew he was alive because I could hear him,” the younger Gore said. “It sounded like snoring.”
His father suffered extensive leg injuries as well, the son said.
According to a statement released by the Florida Highway Patrol, both the garbage truck and the motorcycle were traveling eastbound on U.S. 98 around 11:15 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Gore, according to the report, was attempting to pass the garbage truck when the truck attempted to make a left-hand turn onto a side street.
The motorcycle impacted the garbage truck behind the driver’s side front tire, according to the report.
Prescott C. Gray, 46, of Sebring, who was operating the garbage truck, was not injured.
“Robi is in really bad shape,” said fellow biker Tom Barrett, of Sebring, who had arrived to drive the younger Gore to be by his father’s side at the hospital.
Officials from Progressive Waste Solutions were also on scene.
Traffic control and assistance at the scene were provided by the Lorida Volunteer Fire Department and the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office.
