Columbia, SC : High-speed chase with car thief ends in crash on Highway 378 near Lexington Medical Center on Wednesday, October 19, 2016

A high-speed chase through downtown Columbia appears to have ended in a car accident, according to Richland County Sheriff's Department officials.

Department spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson said the chase began when the suspect stole a black vehicle around 2:30 p.m. Deputies noticed the car and immediately gave chase through Columbia into West Columbia.

The chase ended after the suspect crashed into a white SUV on Highway 378 near Lexington Medical Center.

The suspect has already been taken into custody.

The SUV driver was treated at the scene.

The suspect's identity has not yet been revealed.
