New Castle County, DE : 44-year-old man injured in rollover on Del. 1 north near Smyrna on Saturday, April 30, 2016
A 44-year-old man is in serious but stable condition after a crash on Del. 1, north of Smyrna, left him trapped in a rolled over vehicle, New Castle County Paramedics said.
Emergency responders located a victim, state police identified as Samuel Hill, 44, of Smyrna, trapped inside his vehicle at 3:20 p.m. following a crash on Del. 1 northbound at New Discovery Road, said Corporal David J. McKinney, Jr., public information officer with New Castle County Paramedics. The car, a 2002 silver Saturn, was the only vehicle involved and had rolled over on its roof, said Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale, a spokesman with Delaware State Police.
The victim was extricated from the vehicle by the Townsend and Odessa fire departments, McKinney said.
Hill was evaluated by paramedics on the scene with injuries to his chest, upper and lower body area, McKinney said. He was then transported to the trauma center at Christiana Hospital by a state helicopter in serious but stable condition.
Another crash involving a rollover occurred nearby, McKinney said. The person involved in the less severe crash of the two was evaluated at the scene by paramedics and was not transported to the hospital, McKinney said.
Del. 1 northbound was closed for approximately one hour and 20 minutes, Hale said, while the crash was investigated and cleared by state troopers.
