Wasilla, AK : One person died, another injured after a head-on collision at Mile 48, west of Wasilla on Thursday morning, Nov 19, 2015

A head-on collision Thursday morning on the Parks Highway killed one driver and hospitalized another, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The collision temporarily closed the highway and diverted traffic at Mile 48, west of Wasilla. Troopers have not publicly identified the drivers involved, pending notification of families.

The crash occurred at 9:12 a.m. when a southbound, 2004 Chevrolet pickup crossed the center line and collided with a northbound 2000 Dodge Intrepid, troopers wrote in a dispatch posted online.

The driver of the Intrepid died at the scene. The driver of the Chevy pickup was taken to a Mat-Su hospital with unknown injuries, troopers said.

The roadway re-opened completely to traffic at about 1:15 p.m. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
