Western Oakland County, OK : 3-car crash in Lyon Township kills 1, injures 2 on Sunday, 14th July 2019
A three-vehicle crash in western Oakland County killed one person and injured two Sunday afternoon.
An 86-year-old man driving a Ford Fusion crossed the center line while navigating a curve on Lyon Township's Pontiac Trail, hitting a 2009 Ford Escape with two occupants, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
The Fusion driver, who police say may have suffered a medical emergency before hitting the first car, continued to drive into oncoming traffic and hit a 2017 Ford Escape with one occupant.
While the 2009 Escape driver and passenger were not injured, the collision killed the Fusion driver's 86-year-old wife, who was riding in the car's passenger seat, the sheriff's office said. The Fusion driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, is in critical condition at Novi's Providence Park Hospital.
The 2017 Escape driver is in stable condition in the same hospital. The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate the crash.
