Union Township ,MI :43-year-old Chesaning woman killed after she lost control of her car and struck guardrail on Friday ,September 4th 2015

A 43-year-old Chesaning woman was killed Friday after she lost control of her car and struck a guardrail on southbound U.S.-127 in Union Township, according to Michigan State Police.

The woman, who police have not identified publicly, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 6 p.m. at the exit ramp for Pickard Road, authorities said.

A front seat passenger, a 38-year-old man, also from Chesaning, did not suffer serious injuries. He was released at the scene, police said.

The accident occurred when the woman, traveling southbound on U.S.-127 in a 2001 Chevrolet Lumina, apparently began swerving and then lost control of her vehicle. Her car then went off the side of the road and struck the guard rail.

Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
