MARLBORO TWP, NJ : Alliance woman killed and Toledo man injured in head-on crash on Thursday, October, 26th 2017

A woman killed in a Thursday morning head-on crash on State Route 619 just east of Etter Road NE has been identified as an Alliance resident.

Vera Wareham, 84, of Florence Avenue in Alliance appears to have died from massive trauma to her head, torso and extremities, said Harry Campbell, chief investigator for the Stark County Coroner’s Office. Campbell said an autopsy is pending.

The cause of the crash remained unknown as the coroner’s office, township police, township firefighter/paramedics and the Ohio Highway Patrol’s crash reconstruction team continued to investigate later Thursday.

Township Police Chief Ron Devies said a preliminary investigation shows that Wareham was driving a maroon Mercury west on Route 619 when she went left of center and drove off the road about 9:43 a.m. She came back up onto the road and struck an eastbound champagne-colored Chevrolet Impala driven by a Toledo man.

Wareham was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to University Hospital in Portage County, the chief said.

Neither vehicle had any passengers.
