Wickliffe, OH : Teen arrested after crashing stolen car during Wickliffe police chase on Tuesday, September 27, 2016

A Cleveland teen led officers on a brief chase before he crashed a stolen car into a tree Tuesday in Wickliffe, police said.

The 16-year-old suspect crashed a stolen car into a tree just after 2:15 a.m. at a condominium development near Harding Drive, police said.

The teen is facing charges in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, police said.

A Douglas Drive resident called 911 to report that someone stole her Dodge Charger. Officers spotted the car moments later in a driveway on Mapledale Drive.

The officer stopped behind the car and ordered the driver to step outside. But the driver drove across a lawn and sped off, police said.

The driver turned onto Harding Drive before he entered the condominium development and crashed into a tree. Officers caught the driver as he attempted to run from the crash, police said.

The teen said he and a friend were in the area breaking into cars. They decided to steal the car so they could drive home to Cleveland, the teen told police.

Detectives are still searching for the other teen. It's believed he exited the car before the officer spotted it on Mapledale Drive, police said.
