Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 90 near Lakefield late Sunday afternoon.
Corey J. Handrahan, 38, of Mitchell, S.D., and Richard B. Smith, 49, and Shirvale K. Rottman, 24, both of Sioux Falls, S.D., each sustained what troopers with the Minnesota State Patrol termed “non-life-threatening” injuries when one vehicle rear-ended another shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The collision happened in the eastbound lanes of I-90 near milepost 68 in Hunter Township.
According to results of a preliminary investigation conducted by the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 being driven by Handrahan was eastbound on I-90 when it slammed into the rear end of Smith’s 2000 Buick LeSabre, which was parked on the shoulder of the road with a flat tire. Smith was in the driver’s seat of the Buick at the time of the crash, while Rottman was in the passenger’s seat.
Troopers said Handrahan was wearing his seat belt; Smith and Rottman were not buckled at the time of the crash.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Lakefield Fire Department and Ambulance Service and Jackson Ambulance Service assisted at the scene of the crash.
