Roseburg, OR : A lumber truck is dead after a crash on May, Tuesday, 23rd 2017

The driver of a lumber truck is dead after a crash this morning on Interstate 5 near Rice Hill, according to state police.

At approximately 11:20 a.m., emergency crews responded to the incident, which was reported to be on the southbound lane of highway near milepost 154.

Police say a 1999 Peterbilt semitrailer loaded with lumber was headed southbound when for unknown reasons the vehicle left the roadway. The loaded vehicle continued south and crashed through the grass median before returning to the highway's ramp. The truck then left the ramp and crashed into the dirt embankment on the west side of the freeway, partially blocking the ramp.

The driver of the truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police say the identity of the driver will not be released until next of kin notifications have been completed.

Troopers from the Oregon State Police are continuing to investigate the crash, but said Tuesday afternoon that the driver was wearing a seatbelt during the crash.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation and the North Douglas Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
