2 men killed in off-road vehicle on state highway
Two men riding in an off-road vehicle on a state highway in northwestern Pennsylvania were killed in a head-on crash when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle.State police said Saturday the crash occurred at 6:50 p.m. Friday on state Route 8 outside Hydetown in Crawford County.Police said the victims, both from Titusville, were in an off-road vehicle known as a "side by side" because of its seating configuration. It's illegal to drive such vehicles on public highways"You can cross a highway at (an angle of) 90 degrees, but you can't drive up and down the road," said Trooper Adam Haun, who investigated the accident.The driver, 22-year-old Devon Patrick Beach, was flown to a hospital in Erie, where he later died. His passenger, 23-year-old Ryan James Rose, was declared dead at the scene.Neither man was wearing a seat belt police said.The 70-year-old driver of the other car, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
