Chillicothe, IL : Chillicothe man cited for Thursday's fatal crash in the 19000 block of North Old Galena Road on Thursday, 27th February, 2020
An 89-year-old Chillicothe man was killed Thursday morning when he suffered “multiple blunt force trauma injuries” in a traffic accident on Old Galena Road.
Harold Huffman was pronounced dead on scene at 10:50 a.m. by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood. He was the sole occupant of the minivan he was driving.
The “near-head-on” collision occurred in the 19000 block of North Old Galena Road, Harwood said.
When rescue workers arrived, they found both vehicles off the road and in a ditch. According to Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell, the crash occurred when a pickup truck that was headed north crossed the center line, hitting Huffman’s minivan that was headed south.
Huffman likely died instantly, Harwood said.
The other driver, Thomas Hackett, 51, of Chillicothe, was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center with what officials have termed as non life-threatening injuries, Harwood said.
Asbell said Hackett was cited for driving in the wrong lane.
