Santa Fe, NM : New Mexico man killed on Highway 101 near Betabel Road on Tuesday, November 29th, 2016
A 58-year-old man from New Mexico died in a car accident early Tuesday on southbound Highway 101 near Betabel Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim in the incident was Gary Wright of Albuquerque, N.M., according to the Gilroy Dispatch.
At 12:45 a.m., authorities received a report of the accident north of Betabel Road, and responders believe the victim left the road and collided with a concrete culvert, according to a press release.
According to the CHP, responders arrived to the scene at 1:07 a.m.
“The responding CHP unit located the collision scene, found an unresponsive male seated in the driver's seat, and requested emergency medical personnel respond to the scene, according to the statement. “CHP personnel immediately attempted to render medical aid and were joined in their efforts shortly thereafter by Rural Metro Ambulance, Gilroy Fire Department, and CalFire personnel.”
Responders pronounced the victim deceased at 1:29 a.m. He was the sole occupant in a 2012 GMC, and it’s unclear how fast he was going when he left the road. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor, according to the CHP.
