Los Angeles, CA : Man, 45, killed by man suspected of DUI while crossing Vernon Avenue in South Los Angeles on Sunday morning, September 28, 2014
A 45-year-old man was killed this morning in South Los Angeles when he was struck by a motorist who was arrested for DUI, a police officer said.
The incident occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on Vernon Avenue east of Central Avenue, said Officer Edgar Sanchez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division.
The 45-year-old pedestrian was struck and injured while crossing Vernon Avenue by a 31-year-old man suspected of DUI, Sanchez said. The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
There was a crosswalk nearby but the victim was not using it, he said.
The incident remained under investigation but the suspect was arrested in connection with the DUI, Sanchez said.
