Fort Payne, AL : Fort Payne teen killed in single-vehicle crash following police pursuit on Saturday, 13th July 2024

A single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning has claimed the life of a Fort Payne resident.

Cody W. Ashley, 19, was fatally injured when the 2020 Nissan Maxima he was driving left the roadway, struck a utility pole, a tree, and then overturned.

Ashley was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old passenger in the vehicle was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency stated that at the time of the crash, Ashley was being pursued by an officer from the Fort Payne Police Department.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:49 a.m. on Dekalb County 248, about two miles south of Fort Payne, in Dekalb County.
